Falcon 4 Profiles for FS/PP/PT using SP3/FF3 or SP3/SP4

(Updated 03/10/04)

These profiles are inspired by Jagstang's F4 profile for the Cougar HOTAS, in that I have tried to preserve the true functionality of the F-16 stick to the extent possible. Thus, I've made extensive use of F4's "HOTAS" commands.

If you're using SP3/SP4, so that F4 only recognizes a single device, load the SP3-SP4 map; if you're using FF3, you can load the F4 v4 map. They both use the same cmc file (generously provided by Revvin). The graphics are accurate for both; really, the only substantive difference is that the FF3 map uses analog axes for the radar cursors and the SP3-SP4 map uses the keyboard commands.

The map includes command Groups 1-4, which are selected while the appropriate Group select keys are pressed. The Group select keys are noted on the included graphical map. Group 1 commands are the default.

Also included is a special COMMs command group. These commands are activated by pressing and holding the COMMs key, which is highlighted on the graphical map. The COMMs command group has its own graphical map.

The profile is designed to work with TrackIR, but will work fine without it.

I've included a customized F4 keystrokes.key file. I made a couple of changes to the stock keymap in order to accomodate the TrackIR keys (and for one or two other reasons that I don't recall). If you want to use TrackIR, you should set TrackIR's "center" key to Pad* and its "enable" key to Pad/.

A couple things to note that are not apparent from the included graphical maps:

1. The left toe brake is mapped to activate the wheel brakes.

2. The right toe brake is mapped to activate Shoot! commands. I've included my Shoot profile, if anyone is interested. I didn't create it; I downloaded it from the Shoot! web site and modified it only slightly.

3. Because the PT does not have a detent, the profile includes an "afterburner" mode. When not activated, this mode clips the throttle output (you can easily change the clipping value). When activated, it allows the full throttle output to go to the game. You need to configure the afterburner inside the game for this to work properly.

4. The Mode and COMM select keys (e.g., buttons 3 and 4 on the stick and throttle and button 2 on the throttle) also have commands assigned. These commands are activated by quick-clicking the buttons (e.g., pressing and releasing them quickly).

5. (FF3 map only) The radar cursor X and Y axes are controlled by the ministick using CM Device 2 X and Y axes, respectively. You need to set this up in the Set up/Controllers/Advanced/Avionics screen in Falcon 4.

6. The map includes a tab for the Throttle Quadrant. It will not affect anything, whether you have a TQ connected to your machine or not.

I hope you find this useful.
