View Full Version : How much would you pay for a new HOTAS?

This thread kinda follows on from the "What controllers would you like to see next?" (http://www.ch-hangar.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=7) thread, originally I intended to post a poll but there are just too many possible combinations to consider so.....

If CH were to design a new controller, one like you perhaps described in this (http://www.ch-hangar.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=7) thread how much would you pay? there were lots of requests for a remake of the Force FX stick, or an F15 stick or an all metal stick... so how much would you be willing to part with for one?

For an all metal F-15 or F-16 HOTAS Setup (preferably F-15..I have a Cougar already so no F-16 required, lol)?

$250-$300 (maybe more depending on the product features, etc..)

Come on now....

Remember that this would have to be made in the US not in China.

For MFD-like controllers I would pay around $150 each.

I think that for an authentic-looking f16 throttle I would also pay around $150.

If I was crazy enough to replace my *NEW* CH HOTAS with an all-metal CH HOTAS, then I would probably pay around $150-$175 for each component. (I paid around $100 for the plastic ones...)

What would you be looking for out of an "MFD like" controller?

For an all-metal CH HOTAS that has the performance characteristics of a fully modded Cougar (e.g., no play, precise control, magnetic or optical sensors), I would pay upwards of $1000.

For me, having the looks of a MFD, plus the 20 or so buttons (functional, of course) would be enough. I don't care for having video there. Just the button functionality (programmable, of course). With daisy-chain capabilities it would be even better, that way you can buy the number you need (2 in the case of Falcon 4, for example)

Maybe some sort of "base" so you could connect it/them together.

Just an idea...

P.S. Then, I would like to be a beta-tester, test-pilot, or however you call them for CH Products... :D

I'd like an MFD much like the Quickshot Masterpilot but without the rather redundant throttle lever, perhaps replace it with a ministick like the Pro Throttle has (hehe lets recycle as much as we can :) ) The MFD would have a central area to hold a printed chart to indicate what each button did or perhaps a static radar display for immersion...would it cost much more to back-light it? I'd like to be able to have a detachable stand to either stand it on my desk or have one of those screw holes in the back...you know the sort, shaped like an upside down lightbuld so you could put a screw on a vertical or sloped surface and hang the MFD on it.

Function wise I would like the same kind of control per button as I do with any CH stick ie the ability to use CMS scripts and have modes selectable by a switch on the MFD device which would give mode control per MFD independant from any other device.

As far as Force Feedback goes I'd pay £200-£250 for a force feedback stick. I'm not all that bothered by a metal stick I've already owned one and while it was nice CH build very solid feeling sticks.

Has CH ever considered a stick or throttle with interchangeable handles? it could perhaps please a wider audience if you could choose a base then match a handle to suit your needs but also be able to switch to a different type without buying a whole new HOTAS.

0$ for an all metal stick. :P

150$ for an all in one solution digital twisty stick a la sidewinder FFB2 ie.:

- adjustable forcefeedback force through the software (from 0 to max)
- adjustable centering force through the software (from 0 to max)
- shouldn't fall over when choosing zero centering force
- optical sensors for X, Y.
- should fit like a glove
- compatible with the other CH USB products and XP
- amount of buttons is not so important but say 10 with a pinky switch
- no need to calibrate (ever)

If CH makes one like that, i'll buy it right away  .

Older thread, but I'm a forum noob so forgive me.

I'm not frivolous or independantly wealthy, but I would pay whatever the price (up to 200+for a CH controller that meets these criteria:

1. Force feedback
2. USB
3. Ambidextrous
4. A few more buttons than the flight stick

I would even sell/give my fighterstick USB to a friend in need of a great controller!

As far as an entire HOTAS setup? Meet these criteria for the JS and put a rotary on the throttle and I'd pay whatever was asked for it...really. I have a monthly PC hardware/game budget and if I had to wait a couple months, no biggie.

I'd pay upwards of $350 for a quality built, optical (or other equally "bounce and spike free" movement detection) stick with a precision metal roller bearing (i.e play free and last a lifetime of 20 hour/week use) gymbal. I would not demand that the actual construction of the stick or the base be metal, nor would I demand a removable, replaceable handle. But I'd give a lot for a stick that had that kind of precision and durability.

I'd also pay more for a better set of pedals, metal with bearing construction for a smoother movement and with a wider stance. If you've ever used Simpeds, you know what I mean.

I personally *like* the existing throttle as is better than any other I've used, except that I'd like to have rotaries, although those could even be on another device. I'd avoided CH products for years after the original gameport throttle I had caused me an incredible amount of aggravation where it wouldn't work with any "fast" system, but have always prefered the construction and feel of the CH throttle over any other I've used since.

Of course, I've only had my new CH stuff for a short while, and perhaps it won't have the loosening problem that has accompanied every other stick I've ever used.
