After about a two year hyatus from CFS1 and waiting on something to re-install that's included in all my maps ;) , I figured I'd re-install CFS1. Well I built a map, downloaded it, exited and went into the game. I made sure "auto-rudder" was checked off. Then I went into a free flight to see how she handled after all these years. Well I got the engine started, lowered the flaps 20 degrees, and advanced the throttle. As I was advancing the throttle I kicked in a little right rudder  so I kicked in a little more   . Well if you hadn't guessed by now I have no rudder input and the "other pilots" are gettin a bit aggervated at me for runnin' into them on roll out/take-off. Can some one please remind me which file I need to re-name in CFS1 to get the rudder to work?

:salute:

You had to rename a file to get rudder control in CFS 1?

Yep I did before and it worked. Trouble is now this ol' brain can't remember which one it was.

Hi Ghost,

Well, I don't recall ever having to rename anything either. I saw the post, I was sort of hoping somebody would know what you meant. I recall a replacement gunsight, but nothing odd about the pedals.

The standard things I'd tell you to check are basically the MS checks. First that AutoRudder is disabled. Next, go to the Controls Assignment dialog and check that the pedals are assigned to your rudder axes. Also check that if it's showing more than just a single controller, you don't have rudder assigned to anything but the primary. If it sees a second controller, it will give it rudder, too, and if it changed value by even one count it can keep knocking the pedals back to center. Finally, find the Sensitivities screen and make sure it hasn't turned the Sensitivity down to zero on you or set the Deadzone way out.

Other than that, I don't know. I ran a quick Google Groups search, there were some complaints about not being able to get the pedals to work back in '98 or so, but I didn't see anything about renaming a file. Mainly it seemed the solutions offered were like the above. If you go to the assignment screen, usually it's a matter of clearing the current axis assignment screen and then kicking the pedals and getting them to fall into the rudder slot. If that will happen, then CFS must be seeing them, then it should just be a matter of figuring out what's killing them. You might try deleting the CombatFS.CFG file, too, and reset all the assignements. Then give it a 4-Axis/4-Button combined and see if it buys that (probably have to turn AutoRudder off again). The other thing, maybe it's something with XP and the axis assignments. Try moving the pedals out to the U or V axes and see if that makes any difference.

AHHHHH Perhaps this is what I remember doing "You might try deleting the CombatFS.CFG file" I'll try that (I think again) Thanks Bob!

Ah. Yeah, that would make sense, I just never made the connection. Sort of "the" thing to try with FS or CFS. Renaming it or deleting causes the sim to recreate a new one with everything set back to default. If you've configured yourself into non-operation, it almost always gets it working again.

Bob, as usual "You da man!" Deleting the CombatFS.CFG did the trick! Thanks! Again.
