View Full Version : Another CM Install Problem - XP SP2

Gentlemen,
I've got a problem trying to re-install CM V3.0 on XP Pro- SP2.
CM appears to install correctly after reinstalling the FighterStick, Throttle and Pedals, all of which were recognized by XP and installed initially as HID devices.
The devices were plugged in at the time of the CM install.
When I run the CM, I simply want to load a map (IL2) and then download the map via the CM.
The CM reports however that "no devices are found", similar to if not the same problem I'm read in other threads.
In the Device Manager, the CH Products the Root and Aux1/2 devices are listed. Under the USB information, the hub and the 3 "HID Game Controllers" are listed.
Nothing abnormal is indicated.
As I said, the installation of the CM did not indicate any problem and the drivers were created as expected.
Prior to installing the devices, I updated the "PCI to USB Host Controller" driver via the Device Manger "update driver" function. I selected the Intel driver for the update. The device is now labeled "Intel 80201EB Enhanced USB 2.0 Host Controller" and no problem is indicated.
I did this in reaction to a problem re-installing an HP Multifunction (Print/Copy/Scan) device, which XP also has a problem with recognizing the Scanner. That device was not connected and was uninstalled prior to installing the ch devices.
Aside from my keyboard and mouse, no other USB devices were connected other than the 1 hub and 3 ch devices at the time of the reinstall of the CM.
I'd appreciate any suggestions/help you may have to clear this up.
Thanks,
SmilinJack

You sir have the SP 2 bug. Bad news is there is no fix. Good news is we are working like dogs to fix it.

I only have the Pro throttle, but have the same issue.
I'm interested though that your HID devices show up under USB devices. My HID-compliant game controller shows up under Human Interface Devices in the device manager.
I thought the problem might be the USB controller, so I bought a PCI USB card and now have the USB ports coming off the motherboard plus the ones coming off the card. The controllers are different chips, but I get "There are no active devices" whichever USB port I use. The CH Pro Throttle shows up fine in control panel/game controllers, however. It seems jusst to be the CH Control Manager which doesn't see it.......

Mike,
Well I suspected as much and thanks for your quick reply.
Can I provide you any additional data from my experience/PC?
Am I correct in assuming the "bug" may lie between CM and how it interacts with XP?
Are all CM versions affected under XP SP2?
Thanks again,
SmilinJack

You Asked:
and how it interacts with XP?
Are all CM versions affected under XP SP2?
==============================
I've tried versions back to 2.xx, and it's the same.
The other wrinkles are:
1) Some people with SP2 don't have the problem
2) Uninstalling SP2 back to SP1 doesn't fix it
However, at least one person seems to have cracked it by doing a format and complete new install of SP1, if you can stomach that...........

Ouch!
It might come to that if the fix is long in arriving.
I can live for awhile with the devices straight into IL2 w/o CM..painful though.
I trust CH will keep the Forum's updated on progress (or lack thereof)?

Michael has been very good at trying to track this problem down, both here on the forum and in personal emails.
They'll crack it........

Steph,
Regarding the devices listed in the Device Manager, I too have the 3 devices listed under HID's. I think we've got apples and apples.
I agree.. it appears CM is the only problem child related to the CH controllers. I believe though that there are other things going on with SP2 related to USB. As I mentioned in my earlier post, I'm having problems re-installing a HP multi-function device that relate to XP not seeing a (standard) usb scanner driver.
I'm sure that CH will identify the problem. My fear is that the problem will reside in the XP code and therefore affect a variety of devices/vendors.
We'll see.

Michael,
I'm at the clinic today, not at my home computer. I can certainly call you, however. What number?

Unfortunately, some of us have to work away from our PCs.
Can you describe what you would like us to try either here or in a personal email?

I am loath to do so as I need your input to get me on target and make sure we are detailing the tell tale signs and fixes for each.

Michael,
How about Friday, 10-7-04, at 1pm your time.
I'll need your number.
If that's not doable, e-mail me with a date/time (has to be after 330PM EDT in my case).
Thanks,

Michael,
The way I read these posts, you're batting 1000 with a 3for3 performance so far.
Have other folks reported success outside the Forum?
