View Full Version : Help with Aces High profile (after 3.5 install)

I use Revvin's excellent Aces High profile. I was using CH Control Manager 3.0 and just upgraded to 3.5.
as far as I could tell, the install went well. I uninstalled the old Control Manager after unplugging my Fighterstick, Pro Throttle, and Pro Pedals. I did the reboot to clear any old driver info from the PC. Then I followed the install procedures for 3.5
the issue is, now when I load the profile it only recognizes my controllers as Control Manager Device 1, Control Manager Device 2, and Control Manager Device 3 in mapped mode. I can't calibrate in mapped mode either. When I switch to Direct Mode or Off Mode the Test/Calibration tab recognizes all 3 of the devices properly (Fighterstick, Pro Throttle, and Pro Pedals) and I can calibrate. Also, all the profile buttons work just like they're supposed to in the profile.
Of course, Aces High map doesn't work unless it's in Mapped Mode, and now in-game I just get only some of the functionality from the stick, and nothing from the throttle or pedals.

I'm not sure I understand the problem. You've never been able to calibrate in Mapped Mode. The calibration is used with the controllers themselves, it goes with the Direct Mode devices. So long as Direct Mode is calibrated, Mapped Mode should line up. Go into Direct Mode, calibrate everything there, and see if it helps.

Thanks for getting back to me Bob. I should have also added that I did recalibrate all 3 successfully in Direct Mode, but if I launch Aces High while the HOTAS is in direct mode, Aces thinks that the throttle is the the primary flight controller and the Fighterstick and pedals don't work. Whenever I download Revvin's Aces High profile (or when it starts via CMstart), it defaults to Mapped mode, and when I launch Aces in Mapped Mode, the Fighterstick functions correctly but the throttle and pedals don't work.
I reinstalled Aces High 2 after being gone for 6 months, and I'm not even sure if his profile works with Aces High 2. But I don't see why it wouldn't. Maybe I just need to remove all of the controllers and reinstall 3.5.

Okay. That sounds more like in-game assignment problems than calibration, especially since you've done a reinstall of the sim. If any characters the map might be sending show up okay in Notepad or the KeyTest utility okay, then it's not likely anything to do with the Control Manager. Revvin can probably shed more light on it than I can.
In Direct Mode, the problem is probably just that the throttle is showing up in the "Joystick 1" position. You can usually fix that with a simple direct map. Start a new map, "Add" the controllers Stick first, then Throttle, then Rudders. Just download it. It should reorder the devices so the stick is in the first position. Maybe keep you going until you get the thing with the map sorted out.

Download the profile and click on the 'Test/Calibrate' button (the one next to the download button) You should see three devices, Control Manager Device 1, Control Manager Device 2 and Control Manager Device 3. Highlight the first one and click 'Okay' to test it out and make sure the axis work do that for each device then once you've done that click the 'Key Check' button and try the various buttons to see if they register. If that all works out ok then I'd agree with Bob that it's possibly joystick assignments in Aces High that need setting as you've re-installed the sim.

Well, I created a brand new map and downloaded it successfully. The Test/Calibrate and Keytests were all perfect on my controllers. Same for Revvin's map as well :) I then ran Aces High 2 with the new blank map, and it sees CH Control Manager Device 1 2 and 3. But only input registers from Device 1 (fighterstick).
No matter if I used the new blank map I created, or loaded revvin's Aces High map, AH only registers movement from CH Control Manager Device 1. Device 2 and 3 are listed, but no buttons or movement from the throttle or pedals register.
Looks like Control Manager is good to go, so I'll take this over to the Aces High forums and see if they can help me get this going in-game.
Thanks much for the help!

OK Red Dog sounds like the controllers are ok, I don't mean to try and tell granny how to suck eggs but are you sure you're assignments are correct in AH? From memory Aces High I did not show controller movement until you had selected an axis, assigned a control then clicked 'Set Input' then click 'Apply' it was one of the little quirks of the joystick setup routine there that has caught out a few users.
