View Full Version : Computer Does Not Remember Profile

I recently purchased USB versions of the CombatStick, Pro Throttle, and Pro Pedals for use with Win XP. After a bit of head scratching I was able create a profile for WarBirds3 using CH Control Manager.
It seems odd, but I have to run CH Control Manager every time prior to starting WarBirds. With my old CH gameport controls, Win98, and Speedkeys, I downloaded once and never had to do it again unless I wanted to change it.
Am I doing something wrong with Control Manager?

No you’re Ok. ;)
SpeedKeys actually downloaded the "template/profile" to the chips in the controllers. This would stay on the controls even if you unplugged them and took them to a friend’s house.
The Control Manager does not download the "map" to the controls physically. It resides between the controllers and Windows. This means if you reboot your PC, unplug the controls, or load another map the controls go back to being their normal unprogrammed self.
Now if you mostly play WarBirds then you can use the CHStart Utility from the Control Manager folder in your Program Files directory. Just drag it to your Start Up folder in the start menu. Now every time you boot up CHStart will run and load the last map you used to the controllers. This will happen very quickly and in the background, all you will see or notice is a CH logo changing color in your task bar and then it will disappear.
Hope that helps.

Gardog> If you need any help with a Warbirds III profile give me a shout, I played Warbirds for about 6 or 7 years and while I'm not a subscriber right now I still have it on my HDD. You'll find profiles for Warbirds III in the profiles forums and I've also posted my Warbirds III .cmc file for players to use to help them quickly create their own profiles.

Thanks for the help, revvin. That worked as advertised!
I created a map for WB3, but it is pretty basic. I only use the four standard positions on the eight-ways and I have some redundancy between the throttles and joystick buttons. Except for the mini-throttle not being supported by WB3, I'm pretty happy with the set-up.
Thanks again and <s> for setting up such a useful site.

I used to run two squads in Warbirds, one was called 'Eurofalcons' many years ago which spawned a German division on the European server (not the current Euro one backed by Tiscali) then when Warbirds III was released I started another squad called '101 Squadron RAF'. I'm a bomber pilot at heart but do like to fly fighters..particularly if they have a few bombs strapped to the wings :D I now play in WWII Online mainly.
In my profile I have the 8-way hat on the joystick mapped in all directions using the keypad keys to give 45 degree views (handy for formation flying) then with the shift button on the joystick held down the hat switch gives you an 'up' view in all directions as if you held Numpad5 key and numpad1-9 to look in a direction. Other keys I found handy to have mapped were the autopilot modes to a hat switch and also trim keys.
It would be nice to see Warbirds updated to allow for more joystick axis input, say separate the throttle inputs onto separate axis for multi-engined planes and also separate the brakes into left and right toe brakes instead of one brake doing both, this would allow for more nimble taxiing.
