View Full Version : Blue Screens With CHCtlMgr V3

Has anyone seen a problem when downloading large MAP files (like LockOn or IL2FB posted here) into their USB joystick/throttle/pedals with the new CH CTLMgr3? And then editing and reloading?

I get blue screens when shutting down WinXP. Usually its a 0X0000C5 error with no specific driver culprit listed but it only happens when I run CTLMgr 3 and ONLY when I make an edit and download to joystick/throttle/pedal more than once or twice.

Doesn't happen when I revert to CH CTLMGR 2.1.

This one has got me stumped for days so I'll be taking it to CH Tech Support soon but I thought I'd check in here.

Just to give an idea of things I've already tried:
- reinstalled XP on my brand new Dell XPS 3.0G and problem occurs with only basic sound and video drivers installed - no other apps or background tasks!
- factory default as well as latest Audigy 2 and Radeon 9800 pro drivers
- don't think it's a Joystick/Throttle/Pedal hardware error since I can't recreate the problem on my old PC upstairs. Something to do with my Dell XPS.
- tried a NEC 6 port USB2.0 card I had lying around to eliminate the Intel USB motherboard chip
- Updated WinXP including MS USB 2.0 fix
- I've followed instructions given to install CH CTLMgr , and reinstall (using CHDelete).
- Ran XP driver verifier against my drivers and only one not verified (interesting sidenote) was the TrackIR driver. But problem occurs with TrackIR deinstalled and like I said I could recreate the problem with my XP system as shipped from factory with no other HW/SW loaded.

I bet it's something to do with low level driver interaction with sound or video driver but Audigy2 and Radeon Catalyst drivers are pretty common so I would have thought someone would have noticed.

Very wierd.

I haven't heard of any reports of that. C5 is a system bugcheck, not a Verifier error code, but it's surprising that Verifier didn't notice when it happened. Did it give you any other numbers/addresses in the BSOD?

Anyway, I'll set it up here a little later and see if I can duplicate it. If you want to, drop me an email (sticky at stickworks dot com). If I can't duplicate it and you're willing, there are some tests we might run to help narrow it down.

Thanks for the report!

An update. Bob Church's offer to walk me through it inspired me to load up CHMgr3 again and this time multiple downloads create no problems. Kind of embarassing considering all the other things I had tried.

Although I had tried the 3.0 install/reinstall process a couple of times before, the trick this time seemed to be rolling back to 2.1 and then back to 3.0. Since my system didn't change otherwise since this morning I think I isolated the fix.

Thanks for this forum - a longtime Thrustmaster user I'm now a big fan of the CH products.

Great! It's kind of wierd that the rollback would fix things, maybe something got crossed up in the registry along the way and the 2.1 reinstall set it right. I tried to duplicate it here with both the IL2 and LOMAC files (both Revvin's) but it all seemed to work fine. Who knows - it's Windows.

Anyway, I'm glad to hear it's working for you. Have fun with it, and if it starts acting up again let me know. Maybe we can figure out what's up.
