Falcon 4.0 Superpak 4 released

The Superpak team have annouced through their web-site (http://f4ut.frugalsworld.com/) that the much anticipated Superpak 4 add-on has been released - though not officially. The release was to be co-ordinated with a number of mirror FTP's but due to some miscommunication Frugal's World who host the Superpak site have been deluged with people connecting to the site which has caused their forums to crash. While no downloads links have yet to be provided one the official site Superpak 4 has been released at Flighthangar.net (http://www.flighthangar.net/). A download page with two mirrors can be found here (http://sp4.flighthangar.net/%20to%20download) but move fast as these FTP's will become red hot as news spreads. Look out for other official FTP's such as Fileplant as the day progresses.

Ya know if you said back in 1998 when I bought this game that I'd still be playing it in 2004 I'd have laughed :D I still remember hurrying to the shop from work on the day of release

Got it.

But for some reason i can't install my Aeye's F18 pit with SP4. The F16 pit is working just fine.

As far as eye candy goes..SP4 is actually a step down from FF2.1. It is very noticeable. FF2.1 with BMS looks a lot better than SP4 with BMS.

Will have to get some flight time in SP4 to see what other things they added / changed. But eye candy wise, FF2.1 got it beat.

I bought mine around 2000-2001. I think it was the last copy they had, because I had real trouble finding it. Then I installed it and...my heart sank. Couldn't believe it wouldn't run on my machine, so a quick google search and...voila!!! Found SP3!

And then came BMS and FF and now SP4...Yeah!!!

Ok... pretend I have NO experience with Falcon 4.0. What should I install before I put SP 4 on top of F 4?

Patches?

BMS?

Free Falcon?

And just as importantly in what order?

Well for some reason I could never get FF and BMS to run so I stuck with plain old SP3, might try again later.

Michael> You need to do a fresh install of Falcon 4.0, if you're uninstalling make sure all registry entries are gone (I've included a file I use to clean the registry of Falcon 4.0 stuff) Then install patch 1.08US then install Superpak. It is also recommended you rename 'Tacrdata.zip' in the Falcon\Zips directory, rename it something like 'Tacrdata_old.zip' then restore its original name after applyign the 1.08US patch. If you want to install Free Falcon and BMS then you install Free Falcon 2 first, then the BMS add-on then Free Falcon 2.1 for BMS.

Well I must have missed the ritual sacrifice and forgot to utter the sacred script as I've just tried to install FF and BMS and now got a completely messed up Falcon installation :angry: , ah well will un-install and stick to Superpak 4.

How do people ever manage to play online if there are thousands of different permutations of the Falcon install?

Superpak is pretty much the standard for online play with BMS and FF adding the bells and whistles like updated 3D objects and TrackIR support (the only reason I really want BMS)

Well I thought the safety lecture I went on today was boring :blink: :wacko: but I've just compared the SP3 and SP4 key command list and not found any differences so I'm off to the profiles and CMC forums to ammend the titles of those files to reflect their compatibility.

It was exciting reading for a while but I realised that the plot was turning out just the same and 'Set Object Density CTL x 5' was the one who did it.

thx for the info rev...i was not looking forward to figuring out a new CMC for SP4 as we have a LAN next weekend. It would have taken a while to get used to if it had radically changed :unsure:
