View Full Version : Trying to use microstick as 'centering' view

I would like to use the microstick as a view control where it looks forward when centered and pans proportional to stick travel (basically like view control on an xbox). I want to use it for falcon mainly, eventually other flight sims. Any ideas?

What view are you using in Falcon? 2D cockpit or 3D? if it's 2D you can find out how to turn your stick into a 4way hat here (http://www.ch-hangar.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=20) or if you require more complex commands to pan the view you can take a look at this (http://www.ch-hangar.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=284) thread. If you want to make it an 8-way hat using a little CMS scripting take a look at this (http://www.ch-hangar.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=225) thread.
If you're using the 3D cockpit view in Falcon or you're playing a sim such as IL-2 or Lock-On then you can turn that ministick into a mouse and pan the view as I have explained in this (http://www.ch-hangar.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=23) thread.

I'm trying to make it work in the 3d pit with bms. Now the microstick is a mouse and I use a button assigned as mouse 2 for panning. I want to look forward when the stick is in the center and pan 'x' direction when I deflect the stick then have it pan back to forward view when returning to center. Maybe use the 'glance forward' command or track ir hooks somehow to give it referance where front is. Thanks for the tips!

I don't have BMS but if it has a "look forward" view command you can script it so it gets sent once when the mini joystick is centered.

Falcon has glance forward button (numpad 9). BMS (patch for falcon, if you fly falcon you should definately check it out - benchmarksims.com) adds mouselook and enhanced track ir support. I'll try the 'send command once at center', thanks! I'm set for moving the mouse with the stick, but what I'm shooting for is to make the joystick point at the same position for a given deflection (all the way right looks at right 6, half way looks at 3). Track IR does this great, but I don't like keeping my head still enough to use it.

Does anyone have a working link to BMS 1.03? I used to have it on my HDD but as I could'nt get it working before I deleted it but would like to try it again especially after seeing whats coming (hopefully if Atari allow it) in future versions here (http://www.simhq.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=31;t=003369;p=).

It's unbelievable that this is the same sim I bought back in 1998!

Hmm BMS downloads appear to be back down again but found a link here (http://www.freefalcon.com/download/F4-BMS1.03-Setup.zip). You can find a very helpful guide here (http://forums.frugalsworld.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=62651) for installing the SP4 and BMS add-ons.
