I just upgraded to XP Pro (clean install) and now I can't get Control Manager 3 to install. I get a Found New Hardware Wizard message: Cannot install this Hardware, There was a problem installing this hardware: CH Control Manager Root Device.
An error occurred during the installation of the device, the system cannot find the file specified.
I'm totally lost.

Have you got your CH devices plugged in when you are installing Control Manager? When installing Control Manager in Windows XP you should have them connected but when installing in Win98 and ME you should leave them disconnected, also disable any anti-virus programs.

Joystick and pedals are plugged in, Norton is disabled. At the New Hardware Wizard I've let it search automatically, I've tried manually, looking in the CHinstall and ch products folders. I still haven't figured out what file it's looking for.

Right click on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop and select "Properties"
Then go to the "Hardware" tab and click on.....
ftp://ftp.chproducts.com/pub/Postings/Driver_Signing.jpg
Then make your look like mine if it doesn't already...

Hello, I have exactly the same problem both with Version 3 and Version 4. My Win XP parameters are set as above !
"Cannot install this Hardware, There was a problem installing this hardware: CH Control Manager Root Device. An error occurred during the installation of the device, the system cannot find the file specified."
Has it something to do with Direct/X ?
I'm going nuts with my MSFS 2004. a couple of millimeters forward with the yoke and I have a descend of 2000 fpm, a couple of millimeters backward -> climbing 1500 fpm. And nothing happens when I try to adjust the sensitivity in MSFS 2004. PLEASE HELP !!!

So Santa brings me the Pro Throttle that I so badly needed. I was happier than a pig in you know what cause I got 4.0 loaded! I plug in the Pro Throttle thinking all's well....not. "The system cannot find the file specified." Tried everything I could think of to no avail. So I haven't used Control Manager since, until tonight. I was installing a USB-Serial device for one of my radio scanners and had the same miserable problem. I found this in a Google search. It not only solved the problem for my scanner gizmo but for Control Manager! I'm happier than a pig in you know what again! :yahoo:
Here's the info.
I have had this problem numerous times in the past where the installation proceeds then ends with the messages:
During the installation of the device.
The system cannot find the file specified
and it goes into a detection loop
HERE is the solution:
Windows 2000/XP has a bug that it cannot properly detect new hardware by *.inf files, if the RunOnce registry key is missing for the following location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion
This key is often used by installers to execute post-reboot programs, but sometimes they accidentally delete this key.
IMPORTANT: This article contains information about modifying the registry. Make sure that you understand how to backup and restore the registry, in case a problem occurs. Please read the linked Microsoft Knowledge Base article prior to editing the registry.
Go to Start » Run and enter "regedit."
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion
With CurrentVersion Highlighted, go to the Edit menu and select New » Key
Name the key RunOnce, leaving everything else about the key alone.
The RunOnce key should now exist underneath the CurrentVersion key.
Once the key exists, Windows 2000/XP stops redetecting the Hardware :yahoo:

Glad to hear that helped you out. That little problem had a bunch of folks baffled, including the whizzes at Gates place.
