View Full Version : Switching between CH & other controllers...

Ok so I now have 2 (soon to be 3) USB cables for the CH HOTAS that need plugging into the back of my PC now, which in itself is not a problem.

BUT... I also do a lot of racing with a USB wheel/pedals rig too.

At the moment I have to hook my box out and grovel around the back of the PC to switch all the wires over but there has got to be a better way... there MUST be. What is everyone else doing to get around this one?

The idea that I'm going to have to be doing this a couple of times every day to switch between games for the forseeable future is none too appealing. Its a shame the CH HOTAS needs 3 of its own USB conncetions instead of just one or it would be considerably easier as I could just plug it in the front, but I only have 2 USB in the front of my box.

Surely there is a way in software of disabling the CH controllers so that they can be removed from the Windows - Control Panel - Game Controllers bit without having to physically unplug them? I sure hope so <fingers crossed>

I know Michael will be kill me for saying this but I use a Belkin powered hub (he hates USB hubs :) ) It's like one of these (http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=&Section_Id=197&pcount=&Product_Id=65992&Section.Section_Path=%2FUSB%2FHubs%2F) except it's grey. I have my Fighterstick, Pro Throttle, Pro Pedals and Flight Sim Yoke plugged into the hub with a my Logitech Momo Force plugged into the back of my PC.

I can't help with the number of USB plugs you need, but you can make all the CH controllers disappear by just setting it to "OFF" mode (It's the 12th button from the left on the tool bar). When you want 'em back, click the Mapped Mode button (14th from the left) and your controllers will come back and the map will reactivate.

WRT the groveling around behind the computer, worse comes to worst get a couple of 6' USB extensions. I normally have them on my machines because I plug devices all the time. Also keeps teh USB port connectors on the PC from wearing out. Anyway, at least you'll be groveling around in front of the PC, generally a better situation. :)

Hi All

I was going to post this elsewhere ... i.e. features you'd like to see in next version of CMS .. etc. However, it's probably appropriate here as well.

Would it be possible, in a future release of CMS ... that one would be able to, selectively, 'Turn Off' ... individual, or groups, of CH controllers?

If possible, would it also be possible to have the 'enabled/disabled' controllers configured via your map.

e.g. ... I'm hoping that by May, I'll have 5 CH controllers connected to my system ( I have 8 USB ports ).

.. so, for FS 2004, .. I would want the Yoke, Throttle Quadrant & Pedals 'enabled' .. and the Fighterstick & Throttle 'disabled'.

.. if I then load a map for Lock On, .... could it then 'enable' the Fighterstick, Throttle & Pedals ... and 'disable' the Yoke & Quadrant.

.. for my Racing Sims, I would want everything, with the exception of the pedals ... 'disabled' ... and use my Act Labs Wheel & Shifter. ( Obviously, CMS wouldn't give me control of the Act Labs kit ).

Just wondering if any of this, is at all possible? If so, .... that would be fantastic.

Thanks for any info.

Regards
Tom

It will do that now. Any controller that's not added to the map will disappear when the map is activated. In Direct Mode, all the devices are always present, but once the map is running you can have it any way you want.

Thanks Bob. The "off mode" seems to be doing the trick. :)
