View Full Version : Compatability with 64 bit XP

I am about to upgrade with a new rig and intended to go with the 64 bit Windows XP. I have read on the IL2 forums this is not compatable with the CH products. I am running a USB combat Stick, Pro Throttle and Pro Pedals - I am not using CH Manager.
Questions
1. Will my CH products work with the 64bit Widows XP?
2. If not, is a fix likely to come in the near future?
3. How do I map the thumb joystick on the throttle?
4. How can I map the Throttle wheel on the combat stick to prop pitch?
W.r.t questions 3 and 4, I have read on this site that the CH manager software is definately not compatable with the 64 bit XP so that option is out.

Welcome to the Hangar :salute:
1. Yes they will, there is a BETA version available on request from Bob Church or Michael Sexton of CH Products
2. It's here, see above :)
3. Depends on what you want to do, if you want to map it as a mouse or joystick its as easy as using a drop down menu box
4. Just map that axis in IL-2's control menu, thats all you should need to do
I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion about 64 bit compatibility, the answer to that is just a few threads below this one - here (http://www.ch-hangar.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=2497). If you e-mail Bob Church he will add you to the list I'm sure. At the moment there is a small delay releasing the new version of the 64 Bit Control Manager while Michael does some last minute testing.

The 'info' you've come across in the zoo are nonsense.
1. Yes, of course. The drivers are currently in the open beta - if you'd like to participate, contact Bob Church and ask for a link to the current version.
2. see above
3. Either leave your controllers in the default un-programmed purely DirectX-compatible mode and map it via your sim's control-options (i.e. select the function and move the microstick), or create a controller-map and simply move the microstick to bring up its dialogue (for detailed instructions, check out Ghost's Control Manager Guide for Dummies (http://www.ch-hangar.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=2107)).
4. See above: in your sim's control-options, select the prop-pitch function and then rotate the throttle-wheel to assign this axis to this function.
Revvin beat me to it...
And Welcome to The Hangar  , timholt :salute: !

Thanks for the responses guys. I have attempted to map the thumb joystick and throttle on the Combat stick through the game several times in the couple of years I have had the CH gear. Tthey are the only two controllers it won't play ball with.
I shall have a read of the 'Dummie' tomorrow and see if I can pick something up from that.

OK I am a complete D%$#head. Tried a mapping experiment all the way down the controls last night and lo and behold the thumb joystick and the throttle on the Combatstick were able to be mapped under the HOTAS section. Prior to that I had only been trying to map them in other sections of the controls.
I have sent myself to the back corner of the room sitting on a stool facing the wall and will remain there all day.
One last question to clarify though, I take it from the above answers to my original questios that all CH products will currently work with the 64bit Windows XP if I don't use the CH Manager?
Sorry another question - definately the last - what are the advantages of the CH manager, as all three products have worked in harmony without it since I have been using them? I am a beliver in if it works leave it alone, that is why I have never bothered with the manager.

Without the CM, all of your CH USB-controllers work as individual separate devices in the un-programmed DirectX-mode. If you want to change this default behaviour and change the default axis and button mapping to e.g. "daisy-chain" your controllers (so that they're seen as one single controller by Windows) or map digital keystrokes to their buttons, then you'll need the CM to set this up.
