View Full Version : Mapping priority--Control Mgr or Sim?

I just received shipment of Fighterstick/Pro Throttle/Pro Pedals last week. I have been spending a few hours in Control Manager 3.0 and I confess I'm having some difficulty with some basic concepts. I am trying to map for LOMAC. Can someone help me with the following questions?

1. LOMAC has its own mapping function for axes. Which mapping function has priority--LOMAC's or Control Manager's?

2. I'm having some confusion with "mapped mode" and "direct mode." I have mapped my stick and throttle for basic functions in LOMAC. They (and the pedals) are mapped as a single device. I have mapped the 8-way hat on the throttle as POV; the 8-way hat on the stick is unmapped and POV is unchecked. In mapped mode, I get no POV function on either controller. In direct mode, I get POV function on the hats on *both* devices, and the POV on the throttle hat switch is askew (i.e., right switch results in up view, up switch results in left view).

3. I have assigned my the toe brake functions of the pedals to wheel brake (HOLD w) per a previous thread, but get no brake function in direct mode.

4. What's the difference between a controller and a device in Control Manager? Help is not clear on that distinction.

Can anyone give me some guidance on any of these issues? Thanks much.

Welcome to the forums Postal, I got your e-mail earlier but noticed you are now registered. What happens is when you download one of my profiles it switches the CH Controllers from 'Direct Mode' to 'Mapped Mode'. Direct mode is when the sticks behave as a basic DirectX compatible control and then you would normally map your controls in the game of your choice using the ingame control options. Mapped mode programs the stick so that all the commands for your game are now mapped to the buttons so button 2 on the Fighterstick (the top red button next to the POV hat) is set to the 'Lock Selected Target' so when it's pressed it will tell your game the 'Tab' button is being pressed which is the default key for that command in Lock On.

In Direct mode your controllers appear in Windows games controllers control panel as you would expect..CH Fighterstick..CH Pro Throttle USB when you download a profile to the joystick Control Manager automatically switches the controls to Mapped Mode and changes the controllers from these basic DirectX sticks and makes them 'CH Control Manager' devices as they are no longer basic DirectX sticks but now also mimic keyboard presses.

The problem you have is you are programming the sticks so they should be in Mapped mode but then then switching them back to Direct Mode. When you use a profile such as mine you only need to map the joystick axis in your game, the buttons will already be mapped because they are mimicing keypresses.

Hey Revvin, thanks for your prompt reply. This clarifies things a great deal. I'll work on this more this weekend and follow up.
