Greetings,
I was wondering if anyone could provide specific instructions on how to assign a shift key to the keyboard so that i may use the hatswitch for "crown views" (i.e. look up front, look up back left, etc)?

Also for some reason i am forced to redownload my joystick map after i reboot? anyone have specific instructions on how to avoid this?

thank you very much.

Click on any button on the joystick and there's a 'Shift Button' tick box you can select to assign that button as a shift button.

In games that use the keypad for view control and combine those keys with a further key such as Keypad 5 giving an up view then I assign my POV hat as shown in the attached image, you can see that I've set the HOLD KP5 KP6 to the shifted mode of that POV direction.

Are you asking for the "shift" key on the keyboard or the "Shift Function" that Revvin mentions above?

You shouldn't really need to redownload each time, it's just that the map goes back to Direct Mode. You can just click the Mapped Mode button to turn the map back on, or you can use the CMStart utility (it should be in your Control Manager folder:

\Program Files\CH Products\Control Manager

If you set up a shortcut in the StartUp folder so it runs when Windows restarts, it will re-enable the map for you.

thank you for the quick responses. To clarify, I was hoping to be able to hold down a button on my keyboard (numpad5 for example) in conjunction with the hatswitch on the fighterstick to get an additional 8 views from the cockpit. Is this possible? ty again.

I'm not sure, but I think the KP5 coming from the keyboard and key for the view command coming from the stick are going to collide. It should work if you send the KP5 from the stick, too. That way it and the view key show up together, but if you split devices the report from the stick's keyboard emulator will probably cancel the one from the keyboard itself (or vice versa).

If you were really asking if you could program the stick to add the "Up" to the view key, then if the sim supports the combination you should be able to do it without any problems.

What game are you playing? I think what you're trying to describe is what I've done in my Aces High and Warbirds profiles.
