Hi folks,

I had a customer walk in today with a set of CH Pro pedals ( gameport) that he bought somewhere else (!!) and was having trouble getting them to work.

( not real worried about him buying stuff somewhere else btw, he's a good guy and has bought lots of stuff from me. Plus he's a flight sim freak :)

Anyway, I can't seem to get them to work either, on the XP machine that I've tried. I get them recognized in Ctrl Panel, says ok, but will not calibrate, using the latest drivers from CH.

I tried using a usb-gameport adapter from a Logitech Wingman as well, but no detecto.

Any thoughts?

Gameport ( at least on my test machine) is O/B AC97, which is functional, latest drivers. Latest 4 in 1's. DX9b. XP Sp2..

Did you do the cross-connect on the pedals and check that the Car/Plane switch is in Plane-Mode? You have to plug the "Aux.Port" connector into the "Joystick" connector, that puts the toe brakes on X and Y and the rudders on R. If you've done that, try to add it in the Game Controllers applet as a 2-Axis/4-Button. Remember to check the "Rudder" box before you pick the 2-Axis. That should work (though it won't calibrate since there's no button). Check the normal Windows test screen and just see if the axes are moving like they should, that will rule out bad pedals and bad gameport drivers.

If that's okay, then try adding the Pro Pedals under the CH drivers again. How far do you get? Will it open the CH calibration applet? Does the applet list the Pro Pedals correctly in the title bar at the top of the dialog? Is it showing just the X/Y display and a single vertical grid for the Rudder axis? Does anything move at all when you go to the CH calibration screen?

I've had another report of problems getting detection in XP that I'm working with a fellow on. Let me know what you find with the above, maybe it will help sort them both out.

One other question - you are using the CHANLG08.EXE drivers from CH, yes?

Ahh good, that it got it working. Just from looking at the calibration screen, things look a bit jumpy however, possibly a gameport issue?? haven't tried it in a game yet to see how jumpy it is..

yes, using the CHANLG08.EXE drivers

thanks much for the assistance, now i'll have to see if i can get them working on my customer's machine..

cheers
