View Full Version : CH Pedals w/o joystick?

Hi,

I searched the messages (and the CH FAQ page) but didn't find an answer to my question:

Is it possible to use CH Pedals (non-USB) without having a joystick plugged into their wiring pigtail?

My old joystick finally gave up, and I bought a USB joystick. It works fine, but I can't get my system (Windows 2000) to recognize my rudder pedals. When I try to add a device, there is no listing for CH Pedals alone.

Help?

This (http://www.ch-hangar.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=377&hl=rudder+only) thread a while ago talked about a possible rudder only driver that I used to use but apparently won't work with the CH gameport rudders, at least that was my understanding.

Thanks for the link.

Based on that thread, it looks like my CH Pedals (non-Pro, non-USB) just aren't going to work without a joystick connected. :censored:

I can't afford to go buy the USB pedals. I could barely justify spending $20 for a cheap USB joystick.

Sucks to be broke. :( Of course, if I wasn't spending all my money building an airplane in my garage, I wouldn't be broke. B)

Watch eBay and the local comuter places for cheap game pads. Usually cheaper than a stick (and easier to hide). It will give you a button to click to get calibrated, too.

Another option, I haven't actually needed to do try this, but if you're at all electrically inclined it should work. Get a DB15 male connector like plugs into the gameport and solder two 47K resistors to it, one between Pin #1 and Pin #3 and the other between Pin #1 and Pin #6. Good idea to tape it up or somethign when you're done so the connections aren't just lying around open. Anyway, Those will look like X and Y pots to Windows. Plug that connector into the back of your pedals where the joystick normally goes, then give the CH Analog drivers (CHANLG08.EXE on their site) a try. They've got a button on the calibration routine screen that will let you calibrate. When it prompts for the Brakes to be moved, just click the button to get around the prompt. As long as you don't assign them it shouldn't matter. If you're using Flight Simulator and the like, you might need to unassign them in the sim, if they're seen they may get assigned to do something and cause problems.

Thanks, Bob! Sounds like the "fake out" plug is within my capabilities. :D
