View Full Version : I GOT A STIFFIE!

There I was, playin' with my joystick and throttle. It occured to me that the throttle is a bit "limp" if I were to mount it sideways in my cockpit for helicopter sims (to simulate collective input). I wanted to see if or how I could make it a little stiffer so it wouldn't fall down and ultimately lower my collective input with out my hand being on the controller. So, I opened up the throttle and noticed there was enough room between the sliders for some velcro (loops not hooks) to fit and lo and behold! It worked! I GOT A STIFFIE! But not to stiff. That is a pretty cool mod. You should make a more detailled step-by-step.

Any idea how to make the stick also stiffer? new springs or something?
It may be the best hotas in the world, but damn its too limp.

Animal,

I remember hearing someone use footpedal springs, but I am not sure if they used them on the old style joystick gimbal or new gimbal.

Step Six: Carefully lift the bottom slider support away from the slider

Step Seven: Using velcro loops only NO HOOKS place the loops on the bottom of the slider and top of the slider support

If more details are needed feel free to ask. As to making your stick stiffer I don't have a spare one of those to play with ;)

Hope this helped.

:bye: Hi everyone:

This is my first post here, I have bought the yoke & the pedals recently and I want to ask you: You think this mod will also work for the pedals?

I love the yoke but the i fell the pedals too smooth (and noisy)

Thanks and sorry for my terrible english!

Wow! Sorry for the late reply! SpaceOperaVictim, the only place you could attempt to do this on the ProPedals without opening them up (and you DON'T want to do that) I'm afraid there's absolutely no room between the sliders forward of the pedals for Velcro. Perhaps something thinner?

Ghost Man, Semper Fi. As a fellow rotorhead, I am re-asking a question I originally posted in the Hardware section here: http://www.ch-hangar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5272

Basically, I want the cyclic (CombatStick) to stay put when I move it, rather than springing back to center, or flopping over like a dead lemming when the springs are removed. You know the drill. Bob Church offered some suggestions in the above post. Before I start digging into innards, do you have a good gouge? Piles of geedunk as a reward. ;)

Thanks, Greystone

Perhaps if you were to put the loop between the the barrel of the stick and the sticks base? Apply the loop sticky side onto the barrel. That's what I'd try.

Take the grip off the slider arm and mount it in line. With your Franken-Potato Slider mod you could use the rotary as the throttle. That would be a very sweet Mod that I could us in my Helicopter PIT. I would be happy to test the setup for YOU. Yes I am that cool a guy that I would sacrifice the time for testing it on SIMs.
