cool

Specific (easy\elementary for you) question please concerning when you extend\lengthen the wiring for both the throttle and stick.

You are basically using the CH cards and buttons right?

What\where do you get the wiring? What gauge is it?

Do you disconnect the CH wiring from the CH card by heating up the solder and then solder new \ longer wiring to the CH card? Or do you splice into the CH wiring?

yes, i am using CH electronics...

although i didnt intend to un-solder the hat..2 wires ended up being unsodered and resoldered, but for the most part, i did splicing....the pots got solder, and i added an additional pot for functionality..

the 2 bottons and hat were extended via a Cat5 cable (24 gauge wire i believe) and the pots were extended using 22 guage wire. Cat5 cable was from belkin products and 22 gauge wire was from radio shack.

i added a pot and a SPDT switch that allows me to switch between 2 pots.. 1 pot controlled by collective and 1 pot thats on the head that i can freely adjust...its purpose was for battlefield2, where i wanted a "auto-hover" switch...the free pot is set so i have 29% torque..and i switch this on from the other pot to facilitate auto-hove when i play the battlefield helicopters.

:eek:

That is incredible! Mmm, that may be a mod that I consider in the future considering the number of helicopters that DCS intends to put out. I may be hitting you up for some plans or something. I may even ask very politely to buy one of those creations from you in the future. That is really outstanding.

i suggest that you get started on a collective, and practive flying...
the thing that started the whole thing was battlefiled...
only to be amped up more by seeing stunts and videos from the likes of the SiR team to real life pilots who do crazy maneuvers like the pugachev's cobra...

now that my macro pit is being setup, my first goal is to practice strafing targets using dumb fire rockets...at first (before the collective) i had trouble using the original form factor of ch products pro throttle because everytime i inclined to dip down, i ended up thrusting up.. and vice versa.

i just want to get the leaning curve out of the way, and once DCS black shark is out...im ready to fly. i hope i am capable on a full sized control system as opposed to the xbox controller 's'. (THAT CONTROLLER ROXX...the 360 controllers sux ass)

has been a whiole since my last post on my simpit.
i managed to finish a week and a half ago..was flying last week.
have some tweaking to do,
i ended up buying a CH Products Flight Stick Pro, to chop up for electronics, so that I may incorporate it into the foot pedals...
The Saitek SST Programing software just isnt as flexible as the CH Control Manager Utlility for CH Products Controllers...
My FLight Stick pro arried today.
anyhow this is a pic of the final result for last week..

been two weeks and i havent used the simulator much...

no one flies simualtors???

for the time being, i started to mess aroudn with the xbox 360 with a modification called XIM (xbox input modulator)

it allows a PC to be bridged to the XBOX 360 game console, alllowing any controller hooked up to the PC to be used on the 360.

at the moment , and configuring the original xbox controller 's' to be used on the xbox 360.. the 360 controller is crap.

hopefully i can get a good helicopter configuartion profile and then connect the ch products to the 360

Greetings,

Looking at your work and think it's great stuff. I have been looking at some of the options for Helicopter pits and was disheartened by pricing of most of the products. You have shed some light on what I could make my self.

Questions;
1) How did you over come the linkage of the extended stick to mimic the micro movements needed to maneuver a RL Helicopter? (or did you max out the sensitivity on X/Y)

2) Does your set up have both Collective pitch control and Cyclic Stick Control?

3) Do you have the plans for building your control setup?

4) What was the cash investment of the finished pit? (not including the controllers as I have them already).

Any and all help in this will be greatly appreciated.

i bought gears from a site called sdpsi.com, where i assumed a 4:3 gear ratio between control surface: to potenitomenter.

2) Does your set up have both Collective pitch control and Cyclic Stick Control?

yes and maybe. i do have cyclic stick control, and an "assumed" collective control. why do i say assumed? because it depends on the game. real collective control on a real helicopter operates in a manner that you control the pitch of the rotor blades. but games like battlefield2, flight simulator X, and most others for the most part do not have rotor blade pitch/angle of attack control, rather these games control the vertical movement by means of throttle control. so...my collective does allow me to control the rotor craft up and down by me pulling up and down the collective control.

3) Do you have the plans for building your control setup?

unfortunately no. it took me 8 months of building, and each day i made many scribble on scrap paper to depict propblem after problem of how to build my heli-pit.

4) What was the cash investment of the finished pit? (not including the controllers as I have them already).
didnt really keep track, i think 100-125$ was just wasted away, and maybe used about 300-500$ of material actualy used (excluding controllers). example...i bought bike cranks (30$) that didnt end up in the design, and 40$ in hydrualic dampers that also didnt make it in the design.

so i probably spent anywhere between 700$ to 900$ for the whole thing.

Hmm, that site appears to be controlled by a domain squatter now. :(

Ahh, thank you. Bookmarked!

Might I ask you which particular style of gears you used?

its been cool, i thought there would have been more people and more servers....
good times with the folks at Ka50.com thats where you can find me...

cyclic = combatstick
collective = pro throttle
torque pedals = flight stick pro ( soon to be ch pedals when i get someones broken one)

Is the collective in those videos the Pro Throttle? It looks like something else. Nice 'pit btw.
