View Full Version : CHCM3 software broken?

Hello guys, great discussion/support forum!
I just purchased a USB Combatstick and rudder pedals, and love them. I'm figuring out how to use the CHCM 2.10 software that came with them, but it's not the most intuitive interface, though it covers a lot of ground in a compact area. Noticed on CH's web site that there's a version 3 available, so decided to give that a try.
The download's a tiny 64 KB, and when I try to launch it an error pops up in Win XP that says "<path>\CHCMv3i.exe is not a valid Win32 application." Did a little digging on the site, but didn't see this addressed although it's quite possible I'm overlooking it. And surely "someone" out there on the web has it, but you seldom know who that "someone" really is, so I don't feel great about googling around and downloading the first .exe that comes up. Any thoughts or suggestions, or a smack upside the head telling me what I overlooked? Thanks in advance! :)

You're not getting the whole file for some reason. It should run about 3.2 megabytes. Somebody else had trouble about a week back and Michael said it might have been the downloader program the fellow was using, apparently one that opened multiple connections. You might just try it from the CH page with IE or whatever your browser is. One note - the file itself is on their FTP site, so if you try to download and WebWasher or one of those is active it won't find the file.
If that doesn't work, let me know. I've got the file posted as a Zip (the one you're trying to DL is a self-extracting Zip actually) and I can give you the URL for that if you like.

Bob, thanks a lot for the info. The thing though is that I'm using IE. It works fine for my needs pretty much straight as set up, and haven't had problems downloading anything else. No download helpers or anything like that is installed or used.
Perhaps someone can take a look here (http://www.chproducts.com/retail/tech_support_usb.html) and see if everything is working on their end.
OK, idea dawned on me while typing. I viewed the source and found the link goes to ftp://ftp.chproducts.com/pub/CHCMv3i.exe (same apparently as when you hover mouse over link). Copied and pasted it into the address bar and got the whole 3 MB download :)
Appreciate again your advice and offer to help. Still, maybe it's worth taking a look at to see if something's wonky in anyone else's browser. Mine is IE 6.0 on Win XP.

Works Like a champ here and at home.
Tested:
Win 98 IE 5
Win 98 IE 6
Win 2K IE 6
Win XP IE 6
Are you using a download manager or download accelerator?

Works here with 98 Gold and IE 4.01, too. Computers. Bah! :)
WRT the "View Source" trick, I've used that myself on problems and it's a good trick. Also, in IE 4.01 and I'd guess it's still true, if you right click on the link and then pick "Properties" you'll get a dialog with the URL on it that you can just copy and paste back up into the address bar. It's a little easier than the "View Source" thing I think since you don't have to look quite so hard to find it.
Anyway, I'm glad to hear you got it okay. Have fun with it!'

Thanks again for all the quick help and good advice.
MichaelCHProd: No, no download manager or accelerator. Just the IE that came with XP, and an MS update or two. Just now went to try the link again, and it's the whole 3+mb download. So clearly I hosed something up along the way. It was the weirdest thing though. Wasn't intending to do anything tricky and didn't notice anything weird, but after a point it seemed all I got was the stub that thought it was the software.
Anyhow, sorry about the confusion. I'm sure it would be helpful or at least worth a chuckle to post what actually caused that on my end, but it escapes me. Link works great as is, and the software's on the hard drive, so life is good.
Great forum :)

Outstanding... good to hear you are up and running. If you like the board drop Revvin a line and tell him. This is his house after all.
