I am thinking of purchasing a single large HDTV to use as my monitor with IL2, LOMAC, FSX and Falcon. I could go with a 30 inch monitor or the Triple Head thingy with three smaller monitors, but I am looking at purchasing a 42 to 60 inch Sharp or Samsung HDTV with 1080p resolution and 120 Hz (connected by HDMI to a 4870 X2 card).
My question for you home pit builders is what size HDTV would I have to purchase if I will sit about 34 inches away from it to recreate a realistic cockpit view (as if I was actually flying the real warbird)? My favorite bird is the F4U Corsair and I was wondering exactly how far the real pilot sat from the front canopy glass in the F4U-D. I realize with one HDTV my peripheral vision will be lacking but the effect seems like it will be better overall. It seems like a 46 inch HDTV at about 34 inches will be almost one to one for actual cockpit view (in radians) but not sure.
Any advice would be helpful - Thanks
Jay

I sit between 34-36" and I have a 46" Samsung. It's just about perfect size IMHO. Here's a shot of the pit:

I was using a 52" lcd tv. The large display was good. I changed to TH2go ditital (22" monitors) that I like better. For me field of veiw is better than large. To each their own.

with the cost of LCDs monitors going down, i say go for 3x 32" or 3x 37"
i have a 46" and i only used it for a month, but got headaches from being somewhat close... 4-5"

the monitor setup that worked PERFECT for me was a 23" 1080 on top, and a 22" 1080 on bottom, at a resolution of 1920x2160 spanned vertically and flawless ON WINDOWS 7 using the Eyefinity capablities of the HD5770 gfx card...
im able to zoom in on the hud, and see gauges more effectively than a single monitor nor triplehead setup.. and my fps was never below 30.... (was 30-120fps) (MY EXPERIENCE WIH BLACK SHARK AND LOCKON)
..because of higher FOV values, fps was crappy on triplehead.. so you had to be zoomed in all the time...in lockon and black shark
MY two cents...
