Fellow CH Users - (Update, Sept 2011) Finally got around to getting my desktop rig updated. My wife is way too yuppie to ever allow me a 'pit' so I had to do the best I could with 21st century tasteful, LOL. At any rate, you can see my nice Revised Franken Potato and CH FS/PP. After much reading and checking I decided to upgrade to a Sharp Aquos Quattron model (which allows use of Nvidia 3D Vision). I may also get some nice multi-function panels in the near future as well (wife permitting). Not as sweet as yours Rugg or Ken, but then you dont know my wife ;)

Thanks Ken, this Franken Potato is kicking butts

System specs always changing but as of Sept, 2011:

Specs are: i7 980X @ 4.4 GHz, ASUS Rampage Extreme III, 24 GB Corsair Dominator @ 1866, 2 x GTX 580 (SLI) , 2 x OCZ Vertex 3, 240 GB SSDs plus OCZ RevoDrive V3 (boot), Seagate 1 TB, Corsair AX1200 modular, Lite-On 24x DVD burner and Pioneer BDR-205 Blue Ray Burner, Custom Watercooling by Swiftech, Koolance and EK on the CPU and GPUs, Logitech G510, G700 Gaming Mouse, Creative Gigaworks 750, Sharp LC-52LE835U, Track IR 5 and CH FS/PP plus Revised Franken Potato

Nice setup. I'll bet those SSD's are fast.

I have been in a continual battle with Microsoft to see how fast their bloatware can load. With the ole XP and Western Digital Raptors, I could get it down to about 44 seconds. Then Vista came out and I never got past about 1:36. When I moved to OCZ Core V2 SSDs, I got it down to about 57 seconds but I did not use the RAID card at that time. Now I can fully load and reach my desktop in 8 seconds.

.... and that is great but,..... for 6.2 billion US dollars in development costs, Vista still sucks. For anything other than games, Ubuntu works much better.

Another thing Ruggbutt is this HDTV rocks. After looking at your fine setup and others here in the forums and reading up on the Triple2Go thingy (with three monitors) and looking at 30" monitor reviews online (and at the Apple store), I think I made the right decision. Each to his own but while a 30 incher has higher def than this TV, you just dont get the 'feel'. If I set my view while using the Corsair in IL2 1946 to normal view, it just about mirrors exactly the measurements I took from the real corsair (while sitting 34 inches away). There was just no way that a 30 inch monitor or three smaller 24 inch monitors was going to replicate that for me convincingly. Plus when I am done flying and want to watch a Blue Ray movie... presto... nice large HD picture that is fully HDCP compliant. Half of the 30 inch monitors out are not HDCP compliant and the Triple2Go destroys AACS so no go there either.

On another note Rugg, I suggest you try out the Nvidia 3D Vision. Its not great for IL2 online with Hyperlobby but for offline it really adds fun to IL2 and LOMAC. Plus you have a 30 day guarantee so you can return it if it is not your gig.

Hello Kimba - Those buttons along the front of the throttle are part of a mod to the CH Pro Throttle done by Ken King, who is a frequent contributor to this forum. He offers a series of mods to the stock Pro Throttle which converts it into the Franken Potato (and also allows the Pro Throttle to have rotaries). You should private message him here at the forums if you are interested. His name is Ken '531 Ghost' King.

Ken:
Have you ever or would you consider modifying my CH Yoke with similiar setup to the "potato" ?

Rickie Lee, how do you think the Throttle Quadrant started? ;) I have an Eclipse. Let me see what I can do as to the placement of switches and POTs.

Ken:

Thanks Ghost. I have very short fingers so am thinking of new buttons/pots on both left and right handles and also across center span.
The controls on the body of the yoke are too hard to get to fast when I'm flying/fighting. Just wondered if has been done or could be done.
Thanks

WOAH, you want POTs AND switches on the handles? That, I'm sure I can't do. No room. On the body of the Yoke, probably, not the handles.

How about switches but no pots, room for that?

Well, after further consideration, I'm going to have to leave well enough alone. Sorry Rickie Lee, I'm going to have to pass.

Changed out the 5870 ATI Crossfire to Nvidia GTX 580 SLI and I am now installing new Sharp Quattron 3D HDTV. Also, the Franken Potato is rocking. If you own a CH ProThrottle owner and see this thread, the take home message is clear ... upgrade to the Franken Potato, as it kicks a$$ !

Returned the 60 inch Quattron due to pixel size and instead purchased the Quattron 3D LC-52LE835U, which is about the fourth hardware revision of Sharp's 52 inch model with many updates. Very happy with it so far and the fourth yellow pixel is not pure marketing BS as I expected. The picture really is more vibrant. Would highly recommend this series of monitors to folks like Ruggbutt who use larger LCD screens. In every way, shape and form this screen beats out more expensive Samsung and Sony models we have in our lab, except in 2D still photography. Especially if you want to play IL2, LOMAC, Falcon, etc.... in 3D, this beats most other 3D implementations I have seen.
