I'm not going for a fancy cockpit like some of you guys, but I am building a new (4'x8') computer desk. It will have a a large keyboard tray, ~38" x ~17". What I need is a good adjustable keyboard arm. It should be able to do the following:
1) slide in and out (probably a track under the desk...)
2) height adjustable (5" to 6" below, and 1" to 2" above the desk surface)
3) slight tilt (10 degrees is enough)

I have seen some keyboard arms that do this, but was curious if any of you who've built your own cockpits have some experience and could recommend something specific. Cost is an issue sooo...the cheaper the better!

Also, what are some good options for left+right throttle and stick setups? Do you guys just make 2 boxes of a certain height and put them beside your chair? I'm talking about having the throttle control on my left and the joystick on my right.

TIA

For my HOTAS I just used industrial grade velcro. They never move.

Hi Venom,

The heavy-duty Velcro works well, but put the "fuzzy stuff" on the stick. I was working with an F22 that had the hard loops on the stick and set it on the floor for a moment. It attached itself to the carpet and when I tried to pick it up, it lifted the carpet off the floor. I had to get a carpet guy to get it stretched out and reattached to the runners that keep it in place. No fun. :) I suppose the type of carpet has something do with it, but it was a mess to get it sorted out again and the Velcro fuzz won't stick to the carpet fuzz.

Best regards,

- Bob

Thanks for the replies.

So you guys just used a box on either side of your chair, and then velcro the stick to the box?

Yep, that's what I did. Here's a shot of the pit:
