I supsect the "problem" is me...but:
I have just got a CH pro throttle USB to go with my MSFF2 stick.
The throttle installs just fine, and windows xp finds all the devices and starts the drivers. The throttle shows up in the Game Controllers, and is working fine.
I am able to assign controls to the buttons and hats inside IL2FB controls setup, but...
I don't get the ch controller software (v3.0). It installs fine, but whatever I do, using the wizard or the Add controller button, it appears not to see the pro throttle. When I click on the "Calibrate" button, I get a "No active devices" message.
Am I just being stupid? :stupid:

When the Control Manager installed did your PC find a whole gaggle of new hardware?
What do the CH Products listings have in the Device Manager?
Have you ever had another version of the Control Manager installed on this PC?

Hi Mike,
The computer found all the new hardware (4 or 5 devices) and as I said, the throttle is working fine inthe control panel/game controllers applet and I can assign buttons in the game itself.
Just the CH controller software doesn't see it......
Device manager shows the CH game controller, and the other devices which were installed (eg the hid mouse)
I've not had game controller s/w installed before

Was the Pro Throttle plugged in before install or after?
Does your Deveice Manager look a little like this one? Which entries are you missing, if any?

The device was plugged in first
Windows found 4 or 5 devices and installed them correctly
I'm at work now so can't list the specifics of the device manager for you, ut will when I get home.
Unfortunately, I can't see your attached picture..........

Okay, Mike
I uninstalled and reinstalled the v 3. software
Windows found Aux1, Aux2, HID keyboard and HID mouse, but no pro throttle
As you can see, the throttle is showing up under Human Interface Devices as a "HID Compliant Device"
I tried "Update driver" and pointing to the CH Install folder on my hard drive, but no joy......

I'm not sure my memories a little hazy but the first time I installed my CH stuff something very similar to this happened, I see a bit of "doubling up", compare the picture Michael gave you with the picture you have (or your system Device Manager)
Notice 2 identical entries "HID Keyboard Device"
Same with "HID-compliant mouse"
(unless your MS-Sidewinder made them??? If it does make HID key and mouse disregard the rest, I don't know unfortunately :( )
Also under Human Interface Devices (more doubling by the looks of it)
HID-compliant device
HID-compliant game controller
there should only be one entry here.
From memory:
Uninstall the Control Manager software.
After you've uninstalled CM disconnect all your sticks.
In Device Manager there will probably be only 1 of each of these doubled entries left, remove them then reboot.
(I hunted down any rogue registry entries (probably were none though))
(I only have CH, in your case you want to leave your MS Sidewinder stuff and kill the rest.)
After reboot, once loaded Windows check the Device Manager
if it's all clear connect your CH stuff one piece at a time.
Take it slow, let windows do everything it needs don't rush it along.
Then install the Control Manager, again be patient.
Good Luck :)

Those double entries worry me too.
We may play the regedit game here in a bit.
First though when you try to Update the driver...
Select Specify location of the driver and click on Next.
Select Display a list of all driver in specific location and click on Next.
Select HID compliant game controller and click on Next.
Click on Next again.
You may get a Digital Signature Notification. If you do, click on Advanced and select Warn when installing unsigned devices.
Then select Yes to continue the installation and click on Next.
Then click on Finish.
See if changes the entry to a HID Game Controller.
If not then give Yobbo's guidance a quick run for it's money. After you pull the Control Manager out give me another shot of your Device Manager(before re-install).

The other keyboard and mouse install when I install the MSFF2 stick
I've tried highlighting the "HID compatible gaming device" and updating the driver. Windows doesn't find any others. I've tried pointing the driver update to the CHInstall folder, and to the program files/ch products folder. No joy
The inf files in the ch products folder "contain no drivers for your device"
I could uninstal the MSFF2 and the pro throttle, but I'm a bit reluctant to do that except as a last resort (in daylight) as they are all working fine with the exception of the CH manager software.
The pro throttle is seen as such by the control panel/gaming devices applet - see below
All very strange!

How are you running the Control Manager GUI? If you're using the "Start" button "Programs" menu that the install created, you should be okay. If you've created a shortcut to the Control Manager GUI of some kind, then make sure that the "Start In" folder is set to the one that has the CHCtlMgr.exe file in it. If it isn't, the main EXE file may not be able to find the installer DLL that updates the Pro Throttle and that could cause the calibration routine not to be able to do the update.
If that's okay, try just unplugging the SideWinder temporarily (don't uninstall it) so the only thing in the Game Controllers applet is the Pro Throttle, then try the Calibration button again.

One other note. You need to be logged in as the System Administrator to do the update. It doesn't matter for calibration, but for it to do the detection, etc. you'll need to run the Control Manager GUI as the System Admin.

Tried unplugging the MSFF2 stick, and trying to update the pro throttle driver.
When I removed the stick, one of the HID keyboards and mice disappeared.
Still CH Manager says "No Active Devices"
I'm baffled.............
When I have had other hardware behave ina similar fashion occasionally before, I was always able to point the driver update applet to either the CD or the installation folder on the HD and windows would find the correct drivers. There are 3 inf files in my program files/CH Products folder, but windows doesn't think they contain anything of interest to the "HID compliant game controller"
As I said, the throttle shows up just fine in the control panel/Game Controller applet, and I can assign all the hats and buttons from inside IL2, it's just that the throttle is completely invisible to the CH Manager for some reason.........
