Do you have enough ports for your controllers and any foreseeable USB devices? What chipset is your motherboard?

Jet:

I've used my CH controllers (lots of different ones) with USB 1 and 2 ports on both MBs and plug-in PCI cards and have never had a problem. I'd go ahead and use the MB ports and if you find that you need more some day, just order a $30 PCI card with 4 more.

I have seen the ocassional problem with Nforce boards but most people swear by them. If you are worried... my test card (http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=153)

I had no issues with my old ASUS nForce powered mobo (A7N8X Deluxe) when plugged directly into that or my Belkin hub. With my new system months of Michael's brain washing has made me see the light and move away from the Darkside and use a PCI USB card ;)

Jetb123,

To be honest, all the Pc's I built for gammers, they never had troubles using expansion cards or the integrated USB. As long as you are using some form of microsoft windows, you should be set. Now if u plan on using linux, walk with caution and make sure the linux u use supports the usb adapter or motherbaord chipset. But for best performance, I would defintily take all the advice Michael can advise for you.

Don't know about that one as they don't tell you what it's chipset is but it does look really cool. I think I will put in a purchase request for it to "test" it :)

Decisions, decisions! :D

Just to chunk this in here, I'm still running my old, discontinued Belkin ExpressBus USB 1.1 4-port hub with my CH USB hotas(Combatstick 568, Pro Throttle, Pro Pedals), working just fine. I have since upgraded my box w/ a new Intel D865PERLX mobo, Intel P4 3.2G HT 800MHz FSB CPU & 1.5Gb Samsung PC-3200 DDR 400 SDRAMS, w/ mobo setup to run USB 2.0 at full speed along w/ legacy USB settings. Hooked up my old trustworthy Belkin hub & controllers to this setup-came up, setup & read w/o 1 hiccup. Works as good as it always has. Just upgraded to CM 3.5 2 days ago. Went thru the whole process, didn't have not 1 hiccup from the hub or controllers. Went right into WB's & flew w/o 1 hiccup.

Now some of the others maybe the Devil's advocate, but this hub that I am using has been nothing short of sainthood! :w00t:

But I can see where a PCI USB card would be preferrable over a hub: the on-board chipset would usually be more robust than the chipsets used on some mobo's, but the big difference IMHO would be the drivers for the card over the std MS USB driver pack that the OS would use for your hub, that is if your hub doesn't have it's own drivers(which they seldom have).

Clear as mud, eh?
