View Full Version : Simple hardware install questions..
Hello all! I just bought the CH FIghterstick USB, CH Pro Throttle, and CH Pro Pedals and was wondering what the best way to go about installing them is?
Per the instructions, I plug in a device after my machine boots up, ok, I understand that. But what if I have multiple devices?
Do I plug them in one right after the other, then do one big install?
OR
Do I plug in one, install it, restart, move onto the next device and repeat the process?
Which one do I install first? Does it matter? Will the order I install them effect their priority in the controller list?
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:)

I'm pretty sure I just plugged them all in and let Windows figure it out :)
I just plugged all of them in and they auto-installed. LOL
All I had to do was insert the CD that came with one of the pieces and click next a bunch of times.....
TALK ABOUT EASY TO SET UP!!! :luv:
GOOD LORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually you can snap that CD in half as it did not provide you with any of the drivers.
All of our stuff uses the Microsoft HID drivers and as long as you are running Windows 98 or better and Direct X 7.0a or better your operating systems has everything it needs to install the controllers.
Now for programming that is a different story. Let’s talk Control Manager :D , but first let us all say in a respectful tone..."Thank You Bob". Now we can move on.
The Control Manager that comes on the CD's right now is old and nowhere near as user friendly or powerful as the latest version (3.0) which can be downloaded for free from our web site.
Note: if you are a suffering non-CH joystick owner (you know who you are) you can download and install the Control Manager and play around in it to see that in fact the grass is greener on the other side. ;)
If you have Windows 2K/XP go ahead and download and install the Control Manager from our site.
If you have Windows 98/ME (when you mention Millennium does your mouth taste bad too? ) make sure you unplug your CH USB controllers before you install the Control Manager and then plug them back in when the Control Manager is finished installing.
Welcome to family Ark
After I plugged in all my equipment I get a screen asking for a cd that came with my controllers. I usually just use the CD that came with them...was I wrong to do this? Should I have been using my XP Pro CD instead?

Your Ok...
Windows XP and Windows 2K install ALL of their CAB files when they are first installed. Those files are on your hard drive waiting for you to plug something new in. Since all of our USB devices use the Windows HID drivers when it finds them it finds the drivers on the hard drive before it has a chance to start looking in other locations.
Windows does however assume that everything needs it's own drivers so as a default it will all ways tell you to "insert the disk or CD that came with your product". With ours you don't have to bother, as there are no USB drivers on it anyways.
Now if you are running Windows 98/ME (AACK  ... there is that nasty taste again) neither of these operating systems wants to waste hard drive space so they wait for you to need something from a CAB file before they pull it off. Some CH users when they install our USB controllers on their Windows 98/ :censored: machines Windows will need a CD but the CD it needs (and it will tell you this when it's ready) is the Windows installation CDROM. On Windows 98 it is looking for the CAB files that are in the Win98 directory of the Windows 98 CDROM. On Windows Millennium (spit  that very well could be the nastiest taste ever) it is looking for the CAB files in the Win9X (note that not even Microsoft referred to it by name but chose to call it Win9X, I suspect they new it was vile)directory on its installation CDROM.
Long story short.... your fine you did nothing wrong just different.
